Raleigh County Commissioners Tuesday welcomed the newly hired Emergency Operations Center Director John Zilinski and assistant director Mark Wilson.

Jeff Raines, a member of the EOC board of directors, said they interviewed a number of internal and external candidates, and sought the assistance of an independent panel in making their decision.

Interviews were held Nov. 5, and the board approved Zilinski and Wilson at its Monday night meeting.

Raines said both men have previously served in management capacities and he commended them on a job well done while handling the recent tornado situation in Odd.

“I’ve worked for 911 for 15 years,” Zilinski said Tuesday to the commissioners. “It’s an honor to start from the ground and work all the way up.”

He said he was born and raised in Raleigh County and has served with local volunteer fire departments.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens and my neighbors if the need arises.”

Wilson said he, too, was honored to be selected for the position and he looks forward to working with Zilinski.
